For our spring 2012 tax-season-edition of Solid State Society, we’ve gone as macro as possible!  In our previous columns, we’ve usually focused on a particular segment or manufacturer to highlight the trends of SSD pricing and behavior.  However for this edition, we’ve looked at every available buy page in the U.S. over the last three years and used that as our primary data set. We gathered data from 574 individual products on 20,865 buy pages in the US over the last three years!  Today, there are still nearly 9,000 active SSD buy pages.

This month we set out to answer one question: what’s the real price per GB on SSDs, and where is it headed?  Moore’s Marketing Law continues to hold that manufacturers can double chip density every 18 months, but what does that do to the price?
